1. What is your surface preparation protocol before coating or correction? The correct answer involves multiple steps: a thorough contact wash, iron decontamination spray, clay bar decontamination, and paint thickness measurement. Any detailer who quotes a ceramic coating without mentioning decontamination is taking shortcuts you will eventually notice.

2. Are you an authorized installer for the coating products you use? Professional coating brands like Gyeon, CarPro, Gtechniq, and STEK require installers to complete certification courses before they can purchase and apply the product. Authorized installer status is not a marketing claim: it represents training investment investment and accountability to the manufacturer.

3. Do you do paint thickness measurements before correction work? A professional who is about to machine polish your paint should know how much clear coat they have to work with before they begin. Without this data, there is no way to safely calibrate the aggressiveness of the correction process.

4. How do you control your working environment? Good detailing requires clean, enclosed space, controlled lighting for defect inspection, and protection from airborne contaminants during coating cure. Any shop doing ceramic coating installations in an open bay with wind or direct sunlight is not working under conditions that produce optimal results.

5. Can you provide before-and-after documentation? Reputable detailers photograph every vehicle before work begins and provide inspection light images that document both the pre-correction condition and the final result. This creates accountability for both parties.

6. What is your warranty policy? Premium ceramic coatings carry manufacturer warranties (typically 2–7 years) that are only valid when applied by authorized installers. Understanding what is warrantied, under what conditions, and who honors the warranty is information you need before committing.

7. Who personally performs the work on my vehicle? In larger shops, the owner who sold the job may never touch your car. Knowing who will physically work on your vehicle and understanding their experience level is a reasonable and important question for any work on a high-value car.
