The surface preparation before coating is where the work actually happens: a proper professional installation includes a thorough wash, iron decontamination, clay bar treatment, and at minimum a one-stage paint correction so the coating locks in a flawless surface rather than preserving existing swirls and defects.

When evaluating detailers, ask specifically about their surface preparation protocol. A shop that quotes a ceramic coating installation without mentioning paint correction is likely taking shortcuts that will show up in the finished result. For a vehicle worth six or seven figures, the cost of a proper ceramic coating installation is a sensible insurance premium against the far greater cost of a full paint respray.
